As Canadian artists living in Los Angeles, Sara Botsford, director, producer, award winning Canadian actress, and Chris Brown, director and visual effects supervisor, partners in 49th Parallel Theatre, believe there is something missing in the Los Angeles theatre scene. That something is a voice from the north.

To that end, 49th Parallel will produce Canadian plays by new authors and by internationally recognized, award winning authors such as George F. Walker, Jason Sherman, Judith Thompson, Daniel MacIvor, David French, John Murrell, Michel Tremblay, Morris Panych, David Young, and the late Timothy Findlay.

"PALACE OF THE END" WINS ACCOLADES…

***Congratulations to writer Judith Thompson,
winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize 2008!

We are proud to announce that Judith Thompson has been awarded the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for Palace of the End. This marks the first time a Canadian writer has received the prestigious playwriting award's highest honor in its 30 year history.

After successful runs in LA and Toronto, PALACE was voted LA Weekly’s Top 10 “Best of Theatre” 2007 and dubbed as Thompson’s "most brilliantly sustained piece of writing in years" (Toronto Star). It is now set to open in New York City this June, presented by Epic Theatre Ensemble.

***Congratulations to Anna Khaja, Kate Mines and Michael Catlin

Gypsies, tyrants and thieves!
All are brought to dazzling life in this swashbuckling, philosophical romp through the dark side.  Zastrozzi is a thrilling black comedy with a mission. The ageless debate of good versus evil, sex versus love, power versus piety, all covered at a galloping pace in this gothic spectacle of one man's search for truth.
