PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 6, 2006 Press/Media Contact: Racquel Lehrman, Theatre Planners (323) 273-1129 e-mail: nyracquel@earthlink.net 49th PARALLEL THEATRE COMPANYProudly Presents… The American Premiere of THE GOOD LIFEWritten by Daniel Brooks Directed by Sara Botsford and CB Brown Join us for our inaugural season openingMarch 17th 2006NORTH HOLLYWOOD- 49th Parallel Theatre, the newest not-for profit company to hit the Los Angeles theatre scene, will produce plays by new and internationally recognized, award-winning Canadian writers. As Canadian artists living in Los Angeles, Sara Botsford; director, producer and award-winning actress, and Chris Brown; director and visual effects supervisor, believe there is something missing in the Los Angeles theatre scene…that something is a voice from the North. The Good Life is a sharp witty look at grown-up, urban relationships. Based on Plato’s Symposium, it’s an edgy discourse about love and sex. Or is that sex and love? “It’s Patrick Marber’s Closer crossed with Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” said Sara Botsford, co-director and co-artistic director. “We wanted a smart play that speaks to a cosmopolitan audience.” Playwright Daniel Brooks has a long-established reputation as one of the most visionary theatre artists in Canada. Artistic Director of Necessary Angel Theatre Company in Toronto, Daniel is a prolific and versatile artist whose innovation and risk-taking have made him a leader within the Canadian cultural landscape. A director, writer, actor and teacher, Brooks has been recognized with accolades and awards throughout Canada and around the world. A mentor and inspiration to an entire generation of theatre artists, Brooks was the recipient of the inaugural Elinore and Lou Siminovitch Prize in Theatre (the most prestigious theatre award in Canada). 49th Parallel Theatre Company will continue its inaugural season with a play-reading series produced in association with the Playwrights Guild of Canada featuring five plays written by Canada’s best dramatists.
